Daily Champion (Lagos)Port Harcourt - FIVE South Korean workers kidnapped Wednesday by militant Ijaw youths at the Cawthorne Channel gas plant in Rivers State were set free yesterday after some 40 hours in captivity. "All five Korean prisoners captured by our unit in the attack on the Daewoo camp were released at 4.00pm," the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) said in an e-mail to the media.

Vanguard (Lagos)This week, another set of Niger-Delta abductees regained their freedom, courtesy of Bayelsa State Governor Goodluck Jonathan, whose administration took over the responsibility of negotiating with the kidnappers. One of them, at the very least, openly declared that though he was not hurt and had regained his freedom, he had no intention of returning to work from which he was abducted.

Daily Trust (Abuja)The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), yesterday killed 10 soldiers and kidnapped five South Korean oil workers during an attack on a gas plant belonging to Shell in Asari Toro local government area. The 10 dead soldiers, Daily Trust gathered, were guarding the oil facility where the Korean expatriates worked.
