Daily Champion (Lagos)Lagos - THE Niger Delta issue has regained a new energy since the activities of the MEND (Movement for the emancipation of the Niger Delta). There was a mixed public feeling about the activities of MEND. While some who feel the impact of the degradation of the oil cartets in the oil producing areas in the country support the activities of MEND in teaching Nigerian government and the oil cartels lessons while also drawing local and international attention to the problem of the area; some felt that the Nigerian government must deal with the "trouble makers" in order to protect the "continuous existence of the country." Another dimension to the issue is the clear-headedness which these guys put to the issue, which far more exceed that of Asari Dokubo. More importantly, these guys refused to be carried away by backward politics of government and the divide and rule. Furthermore, despite the nebulous nature of its demands, MEND still draws the support and attention of the international community (even those who wanted to keep quiet).12/20/2006
