Warri — IJAW national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, lashed out, weekend, at Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori, over a report credited to him (Ibori) to the effect that the view of the Federal Government on the case against the leader of the Niger-Delta Peoples Volunteer Front (NDPVF), Alhaji M. Asari-Dokubo, was judicial and not political, saying that the governor was merely trying to put himself in the good books of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Lagos — RELIEVING what happened on January 20 when they were kidnapped by militants, operating under the aegis of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta (MEND) and how their ordeal in the militants' den was traumatic, the 24 Filipino hostages who regained freedom, February 13, approximately 24 days after they were seized by the fear-provoking freedom fighters, heaved highs of relief, and understandably so.

Lagos — The Federal Government yesterday terminated its advert contract with the Cable News Network (CNN), with regard to the Heart of Africa project and some commercials currently running on its network. In a statement by the Minister of Information and Communication, Mr. Frank Nweke Jr., the Federal Government described as"unethical and unprofessional" the recent report on CNN about the activities of the Niger Delta militants.

Warri, Port Harcourt and Lagos — It was an emotional but happy scene at the New Port, Warri, yesterday, when the 24 Filipinos held captive by militants in the Niger-Delta creeks since January 20, 2007, were handed over to their country's ambassador in Nigeria by Governor James Ibori of Delta State.

Lagos — The Federal Government has denied last Thursday's Cable Network News (CNN) documentary on the militants of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), describing it as false, unethical and unacceptable.

The federal government yesterday refused to deny they are planning to release detained Niger Delta militant, Mujaheed Asari Dokubo. The adviser to the president, Uba Sani, told a television channel the Federal Government was working on a "political solution" to the unrest his detention has caused among militant groups.

Lagos — The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has discredited the Cable News Network (CNN) report currently being aired where purported members were shown. Spokesman of the militant group, Jomo Gbomo, while disputing the report threatened to release the correspondence between MEND and CNN Correspondent, Mr. Jeff Koinange if he dared dispute their claims.

opinion Lagos — Despite the army of million dollar salary earning crisis managers and PR executives in the employment of the oil companies operating in the oil-rich Niger Delta region of Nigeria, it is still baffling that the oil companies did not see the current crisis coming. If they did, it is either they underestimated the power and might of the Ijaws in being able to take their destiny into their own hands, or the shylock executives of Shell, Chevron, Agip, ExxonMobil and the rest of the greedy foreign oil exploration companies operating in the region have also been heeding the counsel of false oracles.

At the Seventh World Social Forum (WSF), held in Nairobi, Kenya, in late January, the most controversial topic was not HIV-AIDS, the US occupation of Iraq, or neoliberalism. There was a rough consensus on these issues. Aside, of course, from the lively internal politics of the WSF, perhaps the topic that generated the most heat was China's relations with Africa.
