Yenagoa — WEDNESDAY, May 16, 2007 is one that the people of Otuoke, the hometown of the governor of Bayelsa state and Vice President-elect, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, will not forget in a hurry. To many of them, before now, the story of the exploits of the prowling armed gunmen in the troubled creeks of the Niger-Delta region was like a tale from the blue.

This Day (Lagos)Yenagoa - Twice they have threatened the life of the Vice-President-elect and Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Jonathan Goodluck and twice he was lucky to escape the evil plans. At the eve of the presidential election last month, militants invaded the Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital in an attempt to kidnap the governor. In their usual commando style they struck but however missed their target: Jonathan Goodluck.

This Day (Lagos)Lagos - There seems to be an end to the criminal activities of militants in the Niger Delta Region if the promises made by the President General of the Global Peace Movement, Dr. Mike Uyi, is anything to go by. Uyi, had promised to bring to Lagos some of the leaders of these militia groups so that they will be made to speak for themselves on what they want from the government and the oil companies. Uyi who only visited the Creeks to ascertain the extent of pollution in the area said that he actually met with the head of three militant groups in the region.
