Abuja — TEMPERS rose in the Senate yesterday as Senators demanded immediate explanation from the Sudanese authorities over last Saturday's attack on the African Union (AU) peacekeepers in Darfur in which 10 soldiers including seven Nigerians were killed.
Abuja — Following the killing of seven Nigerian soldiers in Darfur, the Federal Government has asked the Chief of Defence Staff, General Andrew Azazi, to proceed to Sudan, to appraise the situation on ground and report the latest development, describing the attack as unprovoked.
Abuja — THE special adviser to the president on Communications, Mr. Segun Adeniyi yesterday said the Nigerian government was not involved in the arrest of the spokesman of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, (MEND, Mr Henry Okah (Jomo Gbomo) but stated that the government was interested in his being brought back to Nigeria.
Port Harcourt — Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), has alleged that the attack on Saipem, an Italian oil servicing firm where a Columbian was killed was carried out by some soldiers, in collaboration with some militants, to get ransom. Reacting to the allegation yesterday, Spokesman of the Joint Military Task Force in Rivers State, Major Musa Sagir, denied the allegation, describing it as unthinkable and said "those benefiting from the poor security situation in the state have embarked on a smear campaign.
