Lagos — THE Nigerian navy is to take delivery of new gun boats next month. Admiral Ganiyu Adekeye made this known in Port Harcourt yesterday when he visited the NNS Pathfinder to console the base over the lost of four its men to an explosion that rocked some of its gunboats last Saturday.

Lagos — Ahead the arraignment of the detained leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), Mr. Henry Okah, and one Edward Attata for treason before a Federal high court, Abuja, indications emerged yesterday that the Federal Government is planning to use Alhaji Asari Dokubo as its star prosecution witness to nail the MEND leader.

At least five naval gun boats exploded yesterday morning in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The explosion provoked different reactions from the main militant group (MEND) and the Naval authorities. Sources said yesterday that an unconfirmed number of uniformed personnel were feared dead in the explosion.

Lagos — MINISTER of Special Duties, Presidency, Mr. Godsday Orubebe has dismissed as untrue an allegation that Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan betrayed detained leader of the Movement for Emancipation of Niger-Delta (MEND), Henry Okah, after paying a visit to him in South-Africa, last year to seek ways of resolving the Niger-Delta crisis.

Lagos — Detained leader of Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), Henry Okah and one of his associates, Edward Atatah have dragged the federal government before the African Commission on Human Rights, over their continued detention by the Nigerian government, contending that the Angolan and Nigerian governments violated Articles 2, 5,6,7,8 and 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights by not giving them fair hearing.

Lagos — DETAINED leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Henry Okah and his alleged accomplice, Edward Atatah, are alive and well, their lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, said yesterday. The duo had been without contact with lawyer since their extradition from Angola on February 14.
