THE Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) yesterday alleged that one of its commanders was offered $500,000.00 bribe to implicate Niger Dock Plc as the supplier of arms and navigational equipment used in the recent attack on the Bonga off shore oil rig.

REPAIR work on the damaged Shell operated Nembe Creek trunk-line is still underway, leaving 175,000 barrels of crude oil per day from affected fields shut-in, a company spokesman confirmed at the weekend. Shell's Nembe Creek trunk-line, located at Kula in Rivers state in the restive Niger Delta, was sabotaged in late_July.

Lagos — Gunmen suspected to be militants in the Niger Delta have hijacked an oil service vessel on its way from the deepwater Agbami oil field in Bonny, Rivers State. Spokesman for the Joint Military Taskforce (JTF) in Rivers State Lt. Col. Sagir Musa confirmed the hijack, adding that a crew of eight Nigerian workers was taken hostage.

MEN of the Joint Task Force (JTF) on routine patrol in the creeks of Southern Ijaw in Bayelsa State, Sunday evening, shot a passenger boat in error. Three of the passengers were feared dead, but the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) said yesterday that 12 died.

Port Harcourt — Unknown gunmen yesterday hijacked an oil supply vessel belonging to West African Offshore on the Bonny River with eight crew members on board. Nothing has, however, been heard of the whereabouts of the crew members said to be Nigerians since the attack.

Leadership (Abuja) Yenagoa — A group, Public Spirited Citizens of the Niger Delta, at the weekend, called on the Federal government to investigate the allegation of "fraud" against the suspended Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC),Sam Edem,claiming that his travails was politically motivated.

Akure — Five commissioners and Chairman, Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commi-ssion (OSOPADEC), were yesterday kidnapped by militants on the waterway of the oil- rich Ilaje Local Government of the state. This is coming less than two weeks after some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state were kidnapped by members of Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state.
