Port Harcourt — Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) on Friday suspended the ceasefire accord it declared last year, provoked by what the movement called "unprovoked attack" on one of its leaders by operatives of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF).

A Catholic priest was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the oil-rich Niger Delta region in southern Nigeria on Sunday.
Father Pius Kii was abducted outside his Christ the King Parish in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. A police spokesman confirmed the kidnapping, but said that the circumstances remain unclear.
As at yesterday evening, the picture was not very clear, but it was learnt that there was a shootout between the sea bandits and a militia group contacted by the officials of one of the local government councils in the state to retrieve the stolen items at Azagbene, near Egbema-Angalabiri.

MEND explained that 'Boy Chiki' bled to death with handcuff on his hands, while the trigger-happy soldiers who fired at him severally laughed wildly, calling him "dead dog", as he gave up the ghost.
Lagos — JOINT Task Force in Rivers state has confirmed the death of an alleged militant leader in Bakana on Tuesday. A statement from the spokesman of the security body, Lieutenant Col Sagir Musa, said the late Tubotamuno Angolia aka Boy Chiki was arrested by men of the JTF in the area.
