Daily Independent (Lagos) Lagos — Still recovering from last weekend's attack by soldiers, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has vowed to launch an attack on oil installations in the Niger Delta if the Joint Task Force (JTF) continued to attack it.

SOUTH-SOUTH Liberation Movement (SSLM) and a conflict management expert in the Niger-Delta, Prince Clement Bebenimibo, yesterday differed on the amnesty offered militants by the Federal Government. While the SSLM in a press statement signed by Francis Job described the amnesty as a ploy by the government and security agents to trap the freedom fighters and subjugate the people of the Niger-Delta, Prince Bebenimibo described it as a step in the right direction.

In spite of the Federal Government's plans to grant amnesty to militants, gunmen yesterday attacked Nigerian Navy personnel protecting a Royal Dutch Shell oil facility in the Niger Delta, killing one sailor and stealing four speedboats belonging to the firm.

Yenagoa — IT was a bloody Easter in the Niger-Delta, as 18 militants were feared drowned when the Joint Task Force (JTF) on the Niger-Delta sank four of their speedboats in a gun battle at Okilo Creek, near Igbomotoru River, Tebideba route, Bayelsa State.

Lagos — FEARS are rife over the safety of a kidnapped Edinburgh oil worker. The man, who has been named as 27-year-old Alan Preston from Pilton, was kidnapped at gunpoint from Port Harcourt in Nigeria. A police guard was shot dead by heavily armed militia before he was snatched on Sunday.

THREE naval ratings were feared killed and four others abducted in a clash between the military and gunmen in the Nembe Creeks, Bayelsa State in the early hours of today. The gunmen also hijacked two gunboats of the military personnel and seized the hardwares.

MOVEMENT for Emancipation of the Niger-Delta (MEND) has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a clandestine meeting with some of its commanders, yesterday, (Friday, April 10) and proposed lip-smacking incentive for them if they help the party in securing the 2011 gubernatorial elections in Niger-Delta region.
